A story of 5 adventure seekers
In commeration of our passing out from NYSC; I, Happiness, Sinmi, Halima, and Mary set out to go hiking at Shere Hills, we had no idea we were going to have the time of our lives.
We gathered at British-American Junction by 2pm, it initially was supposed to be 1pm but you know ladies and time-Make-up...lmaaooo
Now, no other person had been there except Halima, we had to wait for her she was our GPS. Halima arrived and we were good to go.(Halima had been to "camp" a few meters from the hills)
We boarded a tricycle to Lamingo, then took motorcycles to the base of the hills. Finally we arrived. By the way, Happiness was checking Google Map all through to ensure we don't get lost. Lol!
And our adventure began!
The first thing I noticed and told the guys was how much revenue potential the hills has through tourism and how the government is short-sighted enough not to see this.
If proprely harnessed could be a major source of revenue for the state.
Alas!
What did we see??!
There was no defined entry point, the site is just opened to the public. The worst? the sight of land mining companies at the base of the hills, large rock blasting equipments and earth moving vehicles.
What an eye sore! Environmental degredation at its best!
Arrggh! I was miffed!
Well we moved on and the sight of the highest point of the hills greeted us from a distance. I should also add Shere hills is the third highest point in Nigeria after Chappal Waddi on the Mambilla Plateau and Mount Dimlang (Vogel peak) on the Shebshi Mountains( Wikipedia-Shere Hills)
So we stopped at a spot to relish the scenery and took some shots:
Some of the things we noticed were little children quarrying rocks. Child abuse! They looked quite unkempt.
Another point of note is the green vegetation despite the rains have ceased. The plants have found a way to adapt to the climate.
Well, Happiness and Mary had to stop at a point they couldn't proceed further. Hahaha scaredy cat!
Sinmi too stopped at some point. However I and Halima proceeded further. We did want to climb the highest point but without the right gear would have been an extreme sport.
We all came to where Happiness and Mary had stopped and had some refreshment and something to eat.
